    Prof. dr. Lex Bosman is hoogleraar Geschiedenis van de Bouwkunst aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. In onderwijs en onderzoek richt hij zich op de architectuur van de middeleeuwen en de Nieuwe Tijd, in het onderzoek vooral op het gebruik van spolia in Rome en elders. Dit leidde onder meer tot de publicatie van ‘The Power of Tradition. Spolia in the Architecture of St. Peter's in the Vatican’(Hilversum 2004). Sinds jaren heeft hij ook interesse in koloniale stedenbouw en architectuur, vooral van de achttiende eeuw. Daaruit kwam onder andere ‘Nieuw Amsterdam in Berbice (Guyana). De planning en bouw van een koloniale stad, 1764-1800’(Hilversum 1994) voort.
